When to use it
- Files go missing or will not open.
- The PC freezes for no clear reason.
How to use it
- Back up anything important first.
- Open Brightfix and go to Fix a problem.
- Choose Files go missing or the PC freezes, and answer the second question.
- Restart when it suits you. The check runs before Windows starts and can take an hour.
What it changes
Schedules a disk check for the next restart.
What it never does
- Never restarts your PC by itself.
Undo
Repairs made during the check cannot be undone, which is why backing up first matters.
Advanced details
- Schedules chkdsk for the system drive at the next start.
- Some security software blocks scheduling a disk check. Brightfix says so if that happens.
Every action is logged with the time, the command, the result and the exit code.
